Rainbow of Kindness Display Card

All across the globe children are placing handmade rainbows in windows to spread a little cheer while the Coronavirus Pandemic continues. It began in Italy and included the message “Tutto andra’ bene” which translates to “Everything will turn out ok”.  In the UK the rainbow represents a sign supporting all of the hardworking health care professionals.

My lovely Stamping Friend, Kelly Kent started a group called Social Stamping and her last theme was ‘Rainbows’. Unfortunately I missed that round but do yourself a favour and go and check out the fantastic display Kelly did on her craft room window as it’s truly awesome  – https://mypapercraftjourney.com/2020/04/11/social-stamping-rainbows-from-kelly/

They’ve been called ‘The Rainbows of Hope’ and I’d like to add the word ‘kindness’ to that heading. The movement is highlighting the positives in a time when we many can be feeling quite anxious about the ‘new norm’ we find ourselves in.  It’s also a reminder to be kind to one another.

Public life has been restricted to the essentials, social distancing measures are in place, enforced travel restrictions and quarantine measures have been adapted and testing has increased in an effort to flatten the curve and slow the spread of infection. Here’s a little snapshot of the sights from my two outings over the Easter Long Weekend –

On the walk home from the supermarket this morning an idea for a Rainbow Card popped into my head. So the garage (with an overflow of boxes from my craft room) didn’t get cleaned out today! I made this instead –

It helped to brighten my day! I decided on the sentiment from ‘Waterfront’ which says, “Every Little Kindness Makes the World Brighter”. It certainly does.

Instructions –

  1. Start with a piece of Balmy Blue Card Stock that measures (H)5-1/2″ x (W)12″.
  2. Score along the width at 2″, 4″, 6″, 8″ and 10″.
  3. Cut six rainbow colours of card stock that measure (Yes, I know a rainbow has seven colours, but just indulge me here) – (H)5-1/4″ x (W)1-3/4″. I used from Left to Right – Poppy Parade, Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight, Call Me Clover, Pacific Point and Gorgeous Grape.
  4. Emboss each panel with a different Embossing Folder (Details in the Project List Below) and adhere to the card base in rainbow order.
  5. Die-cut the large butterfly from Springtime Impressions Dies from Gold Foil and attach its left side to the Poppy Parade panel using Glue Dots.
  6. Stamp the sentiment from ‘Waterfront’ with Balmy Blue Ink onto Whisper White Card Stock and cut out with a Stitched Rectangle Die. Attach to the Pacific Point panel with Dimensionals.
  7. Attach two Gold Foil Butterflies (Nature’s Thought’s Dies) to the sentiment with Glue Dots.
  8. Die-cut a small flower from each rainbow colour (Springtime Impressions Dies) and attach  one to each panel with Glue Dots. Stick a Gold Metallic Pearl to the centre of each.
  9. Stamp the butterfly image from ‘Positive Thoughts’ onto the envelope with Gorgeous Grape Ink.
  10. Fold it like a Gatefold Card before popping it into a standard card size envelope for posting.

Rainbow of Kindness Display Card

Product List

I’m going to be brave and show you a selfie I took today – it’s my #stayhome look; no make up, no recent hair colour and my silver threads are starting to shine through my natural light brown hair. The big question I ask myself is … Will I go back to being a blonde after all this is over? It will be an interesting experiment after 30 plus years of having blonde highlights.    #stayhome     #staysafe     #craftyourwaythroughcorona

  1. I love your rainbow card. It seems so easy to do, and I will try my hand it since I have all the products. By the way, when I retired from teaching after 36 years, I stopped coloring/highlighting my light brown hair. Now I have gray/white/blonde/light brown hair and everyone loves it, even my husband. It took a while, but it has been worth it!

    1. Thanks for the vote of confidence regarding my ISO hair style, Nancy. I’m still a registered teacher but retired from my job as a School Principal over 2 years ago. 2020 was going to be my last relief teaching year but due to school closures I’m not sure whether I will get any more teaching days in. It will be 36 years this year since I graduated!

  2. Great rainbow card.

Walking down Lygon Street, in Carlton is like a ghost town! Very few places even open for takeaway. I am keeping up my lunchtime routine of going for a walk when I’m at work cause I need the break from the office!

I decided about 6 months ago to stop colouring my hair. I have longer hair then you do (I’m not going to share a pic though!) and the colour is growing out nicely. I do have quiet a few splashes of glittery silver. I figure as a mum to 4 (including 3 girls) I need to practice what I preach about low maintenance/be happy with your natural beauty and to age gracefully!

  3. Your rainbow card is lovely Bronwyn, so bright and cheerful. It is also a great way to show off our favourite embossing folder collection! Keep safe and keep creating. xx
