60th Birthday Blog Hop #5 – Fancy Folds

Hello and welcome to the fifth Blog Hop (and INSTA Hop) to celebrate my 60th Birthday in 2022. There are 6 hops in total, with 6 different themes over 6 months leading up to the big day! We’re on the home stretch now.

I gathered a few Stamping friends to ‘virtually’ celebrate this upcoming milestone ‘event’ and for tonight’s hop we are looking at FANCY FOLDS! If you know me, you’ll know I love to make 3D cards which is synonymous with fancy folds. It’s actually a real challenge for me to make a ‘flat’ card. 😁

Tonight’s birthday hop called for something a bit special and this is my take on a Hexagonal Base Pop-Up Card that the talented, Jay Soriano made popular a few years back with his version made from the Window Box Dies. I tweaked Jay’s design and made quite a few cards with those dies ‘back in the day’ and was sad to see them ‘retire’.

When I saw the Beautiful Shapes Dies in the Annual Catalogue, I just knew I had to try and work out how to create a mini version of a Hexagonal Base Pop-Up Card using the hexagon dies in the set. It didn’t take long to make a prototype of the card base as I’d been mulling around with the idea in my head for quite some time.

A ‘new take’ on an ‘old’ design called for some new products to showcase the versatility of this fancy fold. My most recent purchase was the Texture Chic Suite Collection; I’d seen so many gorgeous cards made with it and as a result it rapidly climbed to the top of my wish list and then just like that, it arrived at my doorstep in a big brown box.

I made a Petal Pink version for my first card with the beautiful sea shell Chic Dies, Texture Chic DSP, Distressed Gold Specialty DSP and the open leaves were die-cut from shades of green in the DSP for the ‘seaweed’.

I enjoyed the creative process so much that I had to make another one using Pool Party Cardstock for this floral version.

Oh my! I love this suite of products so… much. Maybe I need to do an Autumn and Winter version of a Hexagonal Base Pop-Up Card to complete all four ‘Seasons of Chic’.

Some adhesive backed Opal Rounds were added to the flower centres for some dimension and sparkle and one was added as a ‘pearl’ to the scallop shell in the first card.

As you can see from the photos, there’s room on the back to write a greeting and each card folds flat to easily fit inside a C6 (Medium) size envelope.

  1. Wow, this is a great take on an old favourite. The hexagon box cards were so fun, and I’m glad that you’ve been able to resurrect them in such a gorgeous way. I can’t wait to see the other two seasons.

  2. Bronwyn, this is an incredible fancy fold, but I would expect nothing less from you. Love both the versions and, like Tina, I can’t wait to see your other “seasons” using this prototype.

  3. Outstanding…. again! Love that suite and love that fold. Your genius is on display again. This hop is amazing – I hope it’s made you happy, birthday girl. 🙂

  4. Totally brilliant!! I love the pool party version!! And I love that it folds flat for postage – that was a really fun surprise!! Just magical!!
