Tropical Chic Planter Box Card

Hi and welcome to addINKtive designs. I’m just a tad excited about the project I have to share with you tonight.

My hubby requested a special Thank You Card to give to the team of dedicated staff who work in ‘switch’ – the people who ring him in the wee hours of the night to come into work when he’s ‘on-call’. Tomorrow night Brett will be getting called in for the very the last time. He won’t have to drag himself out of bed anymore to go and cross match blood in the middle of the night or do other tests in the Pathology Lab; I won’t be wondering when he’ll be coming home or have to tip toe around the following morning while he tries to catch up on sleep.

So, I was more than happy to make a card that would mark the end of phone calls at midnight and interrupted sleep. The design brief was that the card had to be pretty ‘special’ and appropriate for both genders. A Planter Box Card with the Tropical Chic Bundle came to mind and then the next task was to decide on a colour palette.

To continue on with the tradition, I set about putting together some colour swatches for the Tropical Chic Bundle. Last year I compiled colour combos for the Oh, So Succulent, Daisy Delight and Climbing Orchid Bundles.  Judging by the pins on Pinterest, they have been hugely popular and I still refer to them if I’m in need of some colour inspiration.

This is the colour palette that I chose from my most recent collection of images –

I’ll publish all the colour swatches in my next blog post with a FREE downloadable PDF.

Here’s the finished card –

Thanks to some brand new embossing mats, I was able to emboss the leaves with the ‘inner’ leaf dies to create a rich texture for the foliage.

I used the following ‘Embossing Mat Sandwich’

  1. Standard Cutting Pad – Top

  2. Die facing the cutting side down

  3. Card Stock

  4. Blue Silicone Mat

  5. White Impressions Pad

  6. Big Shot Platform – Bottom

It worked a treat and the fact that you can easily use your dies to emboss is just awesome!

This box card folds flat and fits inside an envelope that measures approximately 6-3/8” x 9” or you can make a custom one with an Envelope Punch Board.

I had a lot of fun making a Planter Box Card with the Tropical Chic Bundle. It’s definitely one of my favourite bundles from the new catalogue.

  1. That is a beautiful card. I love how it can be displayed on the recipient’s desk permanently; very clever!
